Overview

SAGE’s corporate websites are the shop front for SAGE’s brand and product portfolio as well as an important part of the sales workflow for SAGE’s textbook business. The Product Manager will be responsible for the vision and mission of SAGE US, UK, India  and Corwin corporate websites. He or she will be responsible for shaping a roadmap that successfully meets business goals and that can be delivered within budget and with resources available.  This will include requirements gathering from stakeholders, user testing, drawing insight from web analytics, requirements prioritization, release scheduling, writing requirements, UAT and release approval. The Product Manager will be responsible for internal communications around the product including product release notes, bug fixes, product reporting and departmental presentations as required.  The Product Manager will be responsible for working successfully with stakeholders to develop creative solutions, accurately capture requirements and drive decisions.  The Product Manager will work with an internal web development team using an agile development process.  Driving deadlines, anticipating interruptions and partnering with the web development team to drive creative solutions is key.

 

The Product Manager will contribute to the strategic development of the website in line with business needs, develop solutions and inform prioritization, drive integration with back end systems, scheduling and budgeting through reporting, research and analysis. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, who takes a positive and proactive approach to their work, and has a passion for technology and user-centered design.Partnerships with other Product Managers at SAGE will be key specifically the ecommerce Product Manager who owns the payment components of the corporate websites.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Be the owner of the SAGE and Corwin corporate websites, strategy and roadmap.
  • Understand the customer journay throughout the product lifecycle, by emersion in user research and analytics
  • Driving the integration of the website as a key marketing channel with a strong content and analytics focus
  • Ensuring delivery of new features on time and on budget against the Product Roadmap and tracking their success through close monitoring of KPI’s in collaboration with the web team.
  • Leveraging drupal superusers to make changes to the site without involvement of the web team where possible
  • Working with UX lead to wireframe new features and writing user stories to ensure features are optimized for the user and stakeholder base.
  • Identifying key items for user testing
  • Develop test protocols, facilitate testing with UX lead and prioritizing user stories according to testing output.
  • Maintain and develop an awareness of competitors and websites both within the publishing industry and more broadly.
  • Establishing and managing stakeholder meetings and other forums to agree product roadmap, gather requirements, report progress, manage expectations
  • Facilitate writing for the web training and drupal super user training and create related documentation for internal teams as needed. Participating in and supporting external product-related marketing, publicity and customer service activity.
  • Analysing data outputs (e.g. traffic, requests for comp copies) from the website to assess success of development work performed, and to inform new product development initiatives.
  • Preparing routine product performance and update reports for internal audiences including set of standard KPI’s and traffic reporting including SEO and Discoverability.
  • Setting up and gaining insight from Google Analytics
  • Effectively communicating product release schedules internally and facilitating stakeholder sign off.
  • Working with other SAGE Product Managers to optimize user workflows between the corporate website and SAGE’s other product sites.
  • Developing successful working relationships across SAGE and ensure clear communication
  • Own product information on corporate website
  • Lead brainstorming sessions and contributing information and ideas to the product roadmap.
  • Actively learning from what is delivered to evolve processes and communications as well as the product

 

Qualifications & Education

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; additional education beneficial
  • Experience working with Drupal , JIRA, Confluence, or Asure required
  • Experience building a web roadmap and defining the mission and vision for a corporate website required
  • At least 5 years web product management experience required
  • Working knowledge of publishing industry beneficial and specifically experience in the higher education market
  • Experience developing products through cross-functional teams, including technology, sales, editorial and/or marketing representatives
  • Demonstrable experience of creating strong product specifications, including capturing requirements, writing user stories and wireframing.
  • Experience working with the library and academic market beneficial
  • Analytics experience highly desirable, with ability to interpret data to inform business decisions
  • Ability to effectively interface with customers, both internally and externally
