We are recruiting three talented Marketing Communications Executives to join our fast-growing Open Access team on a permanent basis.


The Marketing Communications Executive is responsible for developing, managing, implementing, analyzing, and reporting on email marketing campaigns in conjunction with the Open Access Marketing Managers. This position is expected to ensure that direct marketing email campaigns are completed accurately and on time. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communications skills, and the ability to build constructive working relationships with a range of stakeholders.


Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Implement innovative, high-quality email campaigns that can be proven effective based on team/department standards and drive journal goals including submissions, citations, and visibility
  • Write engaging content for campaigns that support business objectives and adhere to established brand guidelines, voice, and best practices
  • Build campaigns in Dreamweaver using existing HTML template library
  • Conduct list research and provide specific and detailed list recommendations
  • Work with Marketing Managers and other key stakeholders to define and agree on campaign briefs
  • Build accurate recipient lists from in-house database tools e.g. Unica, Mastervision, SAGE Track
  • Proofread and fact check content of all campaigns prior to launch
  • Utilize Adestra and internal systems to execute email campaigns
  • Manage email campaign schedule to ensure that all campaigns are deployed by deadline
  • Provide ongoing status on marketing communications schedule to Marketing Managers and other stakeholders
  • Analyze email campaign metrics and recommend improvements based on previous campaign performance and best practices
  • Identify and run tests to validate effectiveness of new approaches
  • Coordinate acquisition of external email lists
  • Monitor key competitor e-marketing activity, report back to relevant stakeholders, and make recommendations for SAGE email campaigns based on findings
  • Carry out other marketing activities as required to support the goals of the Marketing Department

Qualifications & Education

Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:

  • B.A. degree, preferably in Marketing, Communication, Journalism, Advertising, English, or a related field
  • 1-3 years in a marketing role, which encompasses experience of email marketing including copywriting, utilizing email campaign software to execute campaigns, and building lists from databases
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience writing and copy editing
  • Ability to conduct logical analysis of marketing activities
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience with Dreamweaver
